HONOR CODE

It is the goal of Flora Macdonald Academy to instill in our students a strong sense of personal honor and integrity.  These traits will stay with them throughout their lives and will help to guide them as good and productive citizens.  While we expect our students to behave with honor in all their doings, it is particularly important that they do so in their educational endeavors.  The Flora Macdonald Academy Honor Code has been designed to help cultivate a personal code of conduct within each student.

FMA Honor System

 

We believe that Personal Honor in word and deed, Personal Integrity in thought and action, Honesty in every aspect of life, and Respect for others are the essence of a student of Flora Macdonald Academy.

 

Principles:

The Honor System is based on these principles, the characteristics of an FMA Student:

A student’s word is his bond

A student respects personal property

A student respects academic honesty

A student’s conduct is always that of a person of integrity

 

I.     Violations of the Honor Code shall consist of:

 

        • Theft of another individual’s personal property

        • Any attempt to give or receive assistance in any way or form in                    connection with scholastic work for credit; or

        • Lying in regards to academic matters

 

II.    • The phrase “I pledge my honor” which will be written at the and of             any  scholastic work done for credit is an abbreviation of the     

           statement “I pledge my honor that I have neither given nor       

           received any aid on this paper.”

        • On all tests  and exams, any student not signing the pledge to his               paper will be notified by the teacher.  If unable to sign the pledge,               he will be referred to the Honor Committee for investigation.       

          Plagiarism is defined in the Student Handbook.

III.  • There shall be an Honor Committee which shall investigate and                   deal with all cases involving the Honor System.

 

         • This committee shall have the authority to summon any accused                person or persons, to summon and other person that might have                  information about the alleged offense, and to recommend                            penalties to the headmaster.

 

         • The committee shall submit to the administration a written                           record of all cases considered in its sessions.  The instruction of               the succeeding Committee shall be the responsibility of the                             outgoing committee.

 

IV.   • The Honor Code shall be announced and explained to all                               students at the beginning of each academic year. 

 

          • Every student in grades 5 – 12 will recite and sign the Honor Code               Pledge, which shall then be posted in a prominent position in the                 school.
